Custom Works: the Taico Bag

October 17, 2013

Typically when I do custom work, it's simple manipulations to set designs (ie: longer straps, more pockets, different colors, etc.). Every once in a while, I get a request for a completely custom piece, in fact, that's actually how CHC started. Now understand, I love being able to design a piece from the ground up alongside a client, but the trickiest part is making sure it's a piece that will end up the same, sculpturally, as what is in their mind and also be appropriate to the brand, considering it has my name all over it....literally:-)

This whole concept came to a great success when my friend, Piero, was going on a trip to Peru and was in need of a travel/camera bag. He wanted a bag all his own, solid black with simple features, roomy inside to house his camera and laptop, and adjustable in wear from his shoulder to across his body.

Fifteen hours later, the Taico Bag was complete and standing tall at:

16"W x 12"L x 7"D

16" drop from the double shoulder straps

24-48" adjustable crossbody strap

Dawn|Dusk is more than a recent collection; it's a concept to embody. This unisex tee is an extension of what birthed the line of accessories.

I designed this symbol to visually communicate the beauty and balance of dawn & dusk. They are bookends to the day; similar in purpose but different in approach. They are faithful but not monotonous. They are opposite but equal.

So for Lucy's Fall/Winter project, we decided to expand on this idea. Continually inspired by light & movement, she endeavored to use leather to craft shapes & designs that express this particular inspiration. In doing so, she created three distinct abstract designs and then worked them within three distinct accessories; hanging wall art, a tote and a clutch.
