Stories: Chufue Yang

What's your story?

I feel like most of my story hasn’t really been written down because I have yet to experience all of it, but for now, most of the chapters that I’ve encountered have ultimately shaped me into the person that I am today. In a quick summary, I was born in California, raised in Minnesota and moved to Chicago at the age of 18 to pursue my passions. It’s been pretty good, so far.

Left or right brained and how?

Right brained for sure. All of the descriptions fit me to a t.

When you feel a creative block or obstacle, how do you find a way out?

I’ve learned to let my creative blocks or obstacles settle in if that makes any sense. Trying to force myself out of them won’t help me in any way shape or form, so I let these moments naturally take their course.

Pick a city outside of the US to live in, why?

I’d love to live in London. I’ve heard so many great things about the art and fashion scene going on there. Or somewhere in New Zealand, who wouldn’t want to see Lord of The Rings scenery every day?

Where do you find inspiration?

At any given time or place. I truly believe that inspiration can be found anywhere. You just have to be open and meet it halfway.

Did you have an aha moment where you found your craft, and if so what was it?

To be completely honest, I feel like I’ve been experiencing multiple “aha” moments lately. Whether it’s with graphic design, photography, acting, modeling or making music. I know I might be stretching myself thin with all of the things that I’m pouring my creative energy into, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

What makes Chicago feel like home to you?

The people that I’ve met. My friends. The open community of creatives that are so willing to collaborate with one another in exchange for their time and creative efforts. It’s the coolest experience and I can’t get enough of it.

Just Go Create

August 29, 2019

"To keep going, is to believe that there is always an invitation, is a truly creative act... There's sort of a healthy defiance involved. A hoping against hope. God continues to use  creation, creativity, and the arts to point to and unlock hope, mystery, beauty, and love. An open invitation for us all."

CHClosing

July 25, 2019

I’ve made the hard decision to close CHC.

My vision to awaken the beauty in people through creating beautiful products and experiences remains in tact; CHC is simply no longer the vehicle to my vision. My depth of gratitude for your support (every step of the way) is inexpressible.
